Virginia Lake
Virginia Lake a wonderful destination for painters, hikers, campers, fishermen and the first place I ever saw people backcountry skiing! I'll never forget wondering how there could be ski tracks coming down a mountain where there were no lifts. I thought a helicopter must be dropping skiers at the top of the mountain. About that time I saw two men and a young woman walking by carrying skies and I of course asked them how they got up the mountain. The answer was that they attached climbing skins to their skies then removing the skins for the ride back down. The young lady who was carrying a snow board snow shoed up then boarded down.
I was there to paint but I said to myself and out loud, I'm going to do that some day. I had never skied a day in my life and now, although I purchased skis to get into the backcountry to paint find myself totally hooked and rarely paint but go searching for turns and the amazing beauty of the wilderness armed only with my trusty camera and relatively good memory, love these mountains!
